Vermont Jail Prison System  

The Vermont Department of Corrections has six correctional facilities spread across the state. These correctional facilities include the following; 

•  Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility  (MVRCF) – Rutland 
• Southern State Correctional Facility  (SSCF) – Springfield 
• Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility  (CRCF) - South Burlington 
• Northern State Correctional Facility  (NSCF) – Newport 
• Northeast Correctional Complex  (NERCF & CCWC) - St. Johnsbury 

The state also has dozens of county and local jails holding pretrial and short-sentence inmates. These facilities hold inmates in transit to other facilities whenever the need arises. The local county and Sheriff’s office manages local jails.

Correctional facilities in Vermont allow inmates to make two five-minute phone calls weekly to family members and friends. Your name must be on the approved list for an inmate to contact you. Inmate Visitation In Vermont 

The Vermont Department of Corrections allows approved family members and friends to visit inmates. VT DOC has rules for such visits. For instance, an inmate can receive three visitors only, except in cases where the Superintendent has approved more visitors. Visitors must also arrive half an hour before the visitation time and register their names in the log book.  

You must produce a valid government-issued ID to access a facility. Prison officers may also request additional ID documents, such as birth certificates. Children must present their birth certificates.
