Oregon State Departament Of Corrections Inmate Search

Updated on: April 18, 2024

Oregon has experienced a hike in the number of inmates in recent years. The increase is attributed to severe penalties for crimes like drug offenses, increased rates of recidivism, and legal changes that made more activities illegal.

The high number of inmates has led to overcrowding in prisons and violence among the inmates. More measures need to be taken to reduce prison overcrowding. Some measures include early releases, improved rehabilitation, and the introduction of more programs in prison to promote behavioral changes among the inmates.

Oregon Prison Inmate Locator

The Oregon Department of Corrections allows you to perform inmate searches using prison inmate locator information such as physical description, birth date, and full name. The search will yield correctional status, housing location, offense committed, docket number, and probable release date.

For the thirty-two county jails, you can perform inmate searches using the online database or online roster run by the county's sheriff's office. Unless restricted, you can also search for an inmate release date.  You can either contact the administrator or do a prison lookup.  Note that in most facilities, it’s only the immediate family members, attorneys, or crime victims who can get the exact release date.

Oregon Prison and Jail System

Oregon has 36 jails and 14 state prisons. The Oregon Department of Corrections is mandated to manage state prisons. It provides program oversight, and evaluation, as well as funding the community corrections of the county governments. Furthermore, the agency performs jails inspection and maintains data in all the facilities.

Inmates are usually housed in both non-secure and secure correctional facilities. They access various programs, including vocational training, education, and counseling. Besides, the offenders take part in recreational and religious activities.

The inmates are usually grouped based on their crime severity, escape risks, and rehabilitation and treatment needs. They are also placed in one of the levels, i.e., the minimum, medium, close, maximum, and supermax. The minimum level is for the inmates posing the lowest risk, while the supermax is for those with the highest risks.

Prisoners in Oregon work in four capacities, including the work training programs, Oregon correction enterprises, the Department of correction's daily operations, and the DOC-run work crews.

How to Contact an Inmate in Oregon

Inmates can make prepaid calls via Telmate, the prison's authorized phone service provider. You should put money into an inmate's telephone account at Telmate.com. There is no limit on the amount you can put into the account. Calls are recorded for monitoring.

You can also send mail to an inmate in any correctional facility. Make sure you put the full names of the inmate, their SID number, the address of the facility, and your address in case your mail is returned. Also, note that all the mail is read and inspected. You can also send photos and letters through the mail.

Sending Money

Inmates are allowed to have a trust account, and money can be sent to them using phone, mail, MoneyGram or the internet. Before you send, you should know their full name, location, and Identification Number.

When sending using MoneyGram, you should use receive code 7813. You can also deposit the money to your inmate online through Access Corrections or JPAY.

The cheapest way to send money is through postal money orders and making payments to the DOC.

Visiting an Inmate

The Oregon Department of Correction has visitation rules and restrictions. Some correctional facilities have specific restrictions based on the security level of inmates. For instance, some facilities allow five visits a week, while others have three. The allowed visiting hours also vary.

When visiting, you should present a valid government identification document such as a driver's license or US passport. If you are below 15 years, you need to provide a birth certificate or social security card. You should also not wear blue clothing or denim since it matches the inmate's cloth. Electronic devices, drugs, weapons, hats, jewelry, and ski jackets are prohibited.
