Ohio State Departament Of Corrections Inmate Search

Updated on: January 16, 2024

Ohio's incarceration rate is 659 inmates for 100,000 individuals (including jails, immigration detention centers, prisons, and juvenile justice facilities). These statistics show that Ohio locks up a significant percentage of its residents, more than most democratic societies globally. Ohio's local jails receive at least 150,000 law offenders annually. The short incarceration cycle causes constant changes in the number of individuals held in Ohio's correctional facilities.

Searching For an Inmate in Ohio

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections offers a simple online locator tool on its website. You can use this search tool to find a loved one or friend incarcerated in Ohio's correction facilities.

The first step in searching for an inmate in Ohio is visiting the DOC inmate website. There are several search criteria that you can use on the DOC website.

You may enter the inmate's first and last name to narrow the search. The search results offer a list of all inmates with similar names. However, you can narrow the search further by entering the inmate's DOC number. Each number has a prefix categorizing the incarcerated person's gender. For instance, the prefix A or R represents a male inmate, while W stands for female inmates. Ensure that the inmate's number has six digits and begins with a zero.

Other search options can include combining the commitment count with name and number for more specific search results. The zip or residential county search applies to inmates under APA supervision, such as individuals under parole and parole violators.
