Once a friend or loved one is incarcerated, especially the first time, it may be a daunting task to try and maneuver the system. Let's sort out that information in this article. Starting from how to search for the inmate to how the subsequent interactions happen.
Missouri has 139 prison and jail facilities- 22 State prison facilities and 117 jail facilities. The jail and prison populations is as follows:
The State employs 11,232 prisons and jail personnel to oversee the running of the whole system.
Missouri has a department of corrections inmate search database, which has information on inmates across the state.
To start the process, log online and access the offender's web search. You can begin the search with either the inmate's name or ID. A search result will come up, after which you can click on the inmate that resembles the inmate you are looking for. However, due to the size of the results that may come up, any information that will help the inmate stand out may come in handy, including certain distinguishing factors like tattoos.
If the search database does not work, you can make phone calls to facilities you believe the inmate is held and make inquiries. This may take longer, but it can still end up helping you find the inmate.
Communication between inmates and their loved ones is encouraged. The state has set up ways for inmates to communicate with their friends. Missouri employs the services of Securus for their phone services.
However, inmates cannot receive phone calls, but they can make collect calls, debit calls, and prepaid calls. Each inmate will have a personal identification pin plus an automated security system to make the calls.
Inmates can get an AdvaceConnect account set up by friends and loved ones where they can make calls and the money deducted from the prepaid account.
Inmates can have some money in their accounts to help purchase some essentials they need while inside the jail. Each inmate in Missouri has an account with JPay, the choice of money services for the state.
You can deposit the money online through the JPay website or get the JPay app on your mobile phone.
The state also allows inmates to receive money through money orders or cashier's checks made payable to the Missouri department of corrections.
Suppose you were pre-approved to visit any Missouri prison or jail facility. The offender will be informed if their potential visitor has been given the green light, and the inmate will also be responsible for informing the visitor.
Adult visitors will be required to carry a valid photo ID, while visitors between the ages of 13-18 will be required to carry a school photo id or a valid state-issued id. A legal guardian must accompany people under the age of 18.
Every visitor will go through metal detectors and will need to go through an itemizer. This is where you are given a towelette to wipe your shirtfront and palms to detect narcotics ad explosives.
Certain things are allowed inside the facility, including coins to be used in vending machines. You can also come with specific medical supplies, including insulin, asthma inhalers, and nitroglycerin in the necessary dosage.
Certain instances can result in your ejection from the facility, with a chance of a permanent ban from visitations. Some of these include:
