Michigan Offenders Inmate Roster
Michigan State uses an offender tracking system (OTIS) within the Michigan Department of corrections. However, you must agree to its terms and conditions before accessing it.
You will also need some information on the inmate you are tracking to conduct an effective search. This information includes the inmate's name, MDOC number, sex, age, race, tattoos, and any other information that may help make the inmate stand out, including scars and tattoos.
After providing the necessary information, you will be provided with a list of offenders, where you can choose who fits your description. In certain instances, you may have the option of mugshots, which may make your work way easier.
Some of the information that may not be readily available on the website includes:
- All the information made exempt under the freedom of information act
- Information on people that have not yet been sentenced
- Information on inmates held in county jails, or city lockups
- Photographs of offenders who left the system before electronic photographs were allowed
In case the OTIS system bears no fruit, you also have the option of other third-party sites, including Info tracer.
Getting in Touch with an Inmate
The current company working to provide telephone services for inmates within Michigan State is the Global Tellink Corporation (GTL); the service allows inmates up to 20 personal telephone numbers, which act as the inmates allowed contact numbers.
There are several ways inmates can make telephone calls, including:
- Collect Calls- Depending on whether the number is approved, the innate has the option of making a collect call with the receiver paying for the fee. Collect calls cannot be made to cell phones, office phones, hospital phones or other commercial numbers.
- Prepaid Collect- GTL allows friends and loved ones to set up calling accounts to their numbers, such that in case the inmate makes a call to one of these numbers, the charges are deducted from the receiver's account
- Debit- This allows the inmate to control their account, where they can purchase debit minutes through the institutional disbursement process. To get this option, you can make a phone call to GTL at 855-466-2832.
