ADAPT Program

Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment


ADAPT is a licensed outpatient clinic with NYS-OASAS (Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services) which serves all residents of Madison and surrounding Counties. We are also under contract with Oneida School District. ADAPT provides evaluation and treatment to individuals and families who abuse or are dependent on a chemical, or who are affected by someone else's use. The ADAPT team provides services for people with chemical and/or mental health concerns and includes consulting psychiatrists as needed, evaluation and treatment to individuals and families who abuse or are dependent on a chemical, or who are affected by someone else’s use.
ADAPT provides Intensive Out Patient services, a variety of groups, and individual services for adults, adolescents and families. The ADAPT Team provides services for people with chemical dependency and/or mental health concerns and includes psychiatry services as needed. Gary Roberts is the ADAPT Program Director.

INDIVIDUAL/GROUP TREATMENT

DRUG/ALCOHOL EVALUATION:Evaluation services are provided for persons seeking help for a substance abuse problem and for persons seeking help for a substance abuse problem and for persons who are mandated by the courts, the Probation Department, Parole Division, Social Services, Department of Motor Vehicles, drinking driver programs and other agencies. Evaluations are normally completed in one to two visits.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING: Individual counseling, information and referral services are offered by ADAPT to coordinate the necessary treatment components for a successful recovery plan.
SUBSTANCE EDUCATION GROUP: This is an open-ended 12-week substance education program aimed specifically at individuals with either an abuse or a dependancy level diagnosis. Through group discussions and exercises, the group increases awareness about the symptoms and effects of alcohol and drug dependance and introduces group participants to basic recovery tools.
COPING SKILLS FOR RECOVERY GROUP: This is a 12 week open-ended group that enables individuals to develop living skills consistent with a sober lifestyle. Some of the topics presented are: assertiveness, wellness and feeling identification.
INDIVIDUAL LIVING SKILLS GROUP: This is an open-ended group is designed to provide program participants some basic daily living skills: e.g. how to balance a checkbook, how to interview for a job and other day-to-day responsibilites.
RELAPSE PREVENTION GROUP: This is twelve week open-ended group. The purpose of the group is to enable the group members to become familiar with relapse warning signs, Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms, develop stress management techniques and learn about their relapse triggers.
STAGE II RECOVERY GROUP: This unique ongoing group offers a continuum of peer support to our IOP component. Individuals may attend this group while awaiting entry into IOP and again upon completion. Sharing treatment experiences has proven to be an invaluable resource in the recovery process.
MANAGEMENT OF EMOTIONS IN RECOVERY: This is a 12-week open-ended group that enables individualsto develop and utilize stress management techniques to help build positive communication skills. Participants will also develop an understanding of choices and consequences and how it affects relationships, anger, guilt, grief and self-esteem.

INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM

ADAPT offers a twelve week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This program consists of an open group process meets on the following days & times:
Monday 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Tuesday 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Wednesday 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Thursday 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
IOP focuses on substance education, recovery living skills, relapse prevention techniques, group therapy and family issues. Individuals successfully completing IOP are referred for additional alcohol/substance use therapy groups.
SPECIALIZED SERVICES

STAGE I: This service offers specialized individual and group treatment to address the needs of young persons. Clients will explore personal or family issues related to alcohol/other drug use, abuse or dependancy.
DUAL FOCUS SERVICES: This group has been redesigned to provide more structure for the participants. A series of topics are covered to help participants to explore issues around chemical dependence and mental illness.
WOMAN'S RECOVERY GROUP: This is an ongoing process group that meets weekly. It addresses issues and experiences that are unique to woman in treatment and recovery.
FAMILY WORK: Family services has many benefits for drug and/or alcohol treatment including: 1) family involvement increases the chances for success for people working on goals with drug and/or alcohol problems; 2) family work helps reduce the family stressors that often influence the alcoholic/addict to relapse; 3) family work helps family members find new ways to manage stressors of loving someone who has problems with drug and/or alcohol.
Additional educational components to treatment may include attendance at an HIV/Aids program and/or Survivors Impact Panel.
