Maine State Departament Of Corrections Inmate Search

Updated on: March 14, 2024

Maine has 13 jails spread across 16 counties. The Maine department of corrections has a staff of over 1300 employees with a budget of $186,054,417. As of July 31, 2022, there were 10,769 inmates under probation and over 20 on parole.

The Maine Department of corrections is concerned with criminals in state prisons, juvenile, and adult correctional institutions. However, this department does not run county and city jails. Local law enforcement and county sheriff’s are responsible for the county jails. Nonetheless, the Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC) supervises them and offers community service, including reupholstering, wood harvesting, embroidery, and woodworking.

The state is experiencing a huge population increase that has necessitated the construction of new facilities. The increase of male inmates is three times that of women. Hence, the state has decided to build more male centers.

How to Find a Loved One in Maine Prison

You can acquire information about your loved one in the state’s prison through the state’s official website. Additionally, you can get more information by visiting any of the prisons in person.

All the facilities in Maine have a database where you can search for every inmate in the facility. All the information is on the BOP website. The facilities update the database from time to time, and there will be no information for inmates who are out of jail.

You need to have the prisoners’ full names and their identification number. You can also get notifications about crime victims through the Maine Victim Notification System.

How to Contact an Inmate in Maine Prisons

All calls to the facilities in Maine are collect calls. The receiver has to bear the cost of the calls. Calls to family and friends need to be pre-approved. However, the prisoners can buy pre-paid cards to make calls to their attorney.

All calls are limited to 30 minutes, and they take place from 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM. If the authorities notice harassment, fraud, or three-way calling, they will bar the calls.

Visiting an Inmate

Before you visit a loved one at any of the Maines’ prisons, ensure you engage the facility’s authorities. The visiting schedule for most of the facilities is as follows:

Monday to Friday 7:30 AM – 9:00 PM

Saturday to Sunday 7:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Personal Visits

If you plan to have a personal visit, you will need to do prior check to confirm that your name is on the list of visitors. The visitation in most of the jails will last for thirty minutes. Inmates will get four on site visits and six visits over the internet each week. On-site visits are not charged, but you will have to pay for remote internet visits.

Visits by Professionals

Professionals such as attorneys or clergy will have to complete registration through the internet or contact the authorities at the lobby of each facility to get approval. The facilities do not have any limitations to the number of professional visits. If you are an attorney, you should come with your current bar card.

Visitation hours to the facilities during the holidays will vary from time to time and will mostly be under the discretion of the facility director.

The visits are monitored. Any inappropriate behavior will lead to the cancelation of the visit.

Funding an Inmate

Detainees in the detention centers in Maine will need money to acquire items from the commissary. In addition, they can use the funds for haircuts, notary services, photocopying, dental, and medical co-pays. Indigent inmates have an opportunity to work at the facility and earn up to $2 a day.

Friends and family can fund an inmate’s account through an account, which you set up at the facilities lobby, or through the internet. All the detention centers in the state have a kiosk in the lobby that you can use for cash or credit deposits into the detainees account. You should provide the inmates’ name, date of birth, and the DCSO pay location code.
