Idaho State Departament Of Corrections Inmate Search

Updated on: February 23, 2024

Idaho is one of the states with the highest incarceration rates in the United States. It is number 13 in the nation, surpassing all six of its neighboring states. The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is home to about 8,000 inmates. There are nine prisons and five community reentry centers owned by the state. The state also has 36 county jails. Some prisoners from the state are even held at out-of-state contract facilities when necessary. These contract facilities and county jails are monitored by the Contract Facility Monitoring division.

Inmates in the Idaho Department of Correction are either serving time, violated parole, or retained jurisdiction. The state prison holds inmates who are sentenced for more than a year.

Retained jurisdiction are inmates whom the court has retained jurisdiction over and who have been placed in the right facilities for intensive education and programming. Once they have completed their retained jurisdiction, the court decides whether to sentence them to term or place them on probation.

The Commission of Pardons and Parole can revoke and return a convict to prison to complete their sentence if they violate the terms of their release or commit new crimes when waiting for a revocation hearing. The commission can also reinstate inmates to parole.

The Idaho Department of Correction is determined to keep inmates positively engaged in work opportunities and education.

County jails in Idaho are within county jurisdiction. Inmates held in these facilities are convicted of misdemeanor offenses. They are serving less than a year sentence. County jails also hold persons apprehended by law enforcement officers and are awaiting trial or are held in contempt of court.
