Arizona State Departament Of Corrections Inmate Search

Updated on: January 25, 2024

The Arizona Department of Corrections is the primary authority over every prison in Arizona. The agency is also responsible for managing the affairs of private prisons within the state. Arizona has six private prisons, ten state prisons, and 67 city and county jails, which house over 40,000 inmates.

Besides these, Arizona also has several counties, towns, and city jails. Sheriff's Offices oversee county jails, while town and city jails are operated by local police departments since they are temporary holding facilities.

How to Conduct Arizona Inmate Search

The Arizona DOC allows the public to perform a statewide inmate search via an inmate lookup tool on its site. Generally, interested persons must know the prisoner's ADC number and full name to conduct a search and get the applicable inmate details. A name-based search often displays several results, so it's smart to use the inmate's current status and gender to narrow down search results.

Family members and friends inquiring about a specific inmate's records may contact the Arizona DOC by email or call their toll-free numbers.

Requesters will receive electronic copies of prisoners' records by email unless they specify that the agency mails paper copies. Each page attracts $0.1 charges for electronic records and $0.5 for paper records. Each page of subpoena paper copies costs $0.25 plus a $25 per hour processing fee. These fees can be paid via the ADCPay Portal

Sheriff's offices and local police departments provide specific details on how to know if a person is in jail. You can visit the law enforcement agency in person or call to make inquiries.

Running an inmate search is the quickest way to find an individual in an Arizona jail. Most local prison facilities in Arizona have an official website where you can perform an inmate search.

The Arizona inmate search results provide several details about inmates, including age, incarceration date, height, ethnicity, incarceration facility, mugshots, the possibility for parole, and potential Release dates. These dates are subject to change depending on several factors. So, you might need to regularly check the correctional facility for updates.

How to Send Money to Inmates in Arizona

Arizona DOC provides various ways of sending money to prisoners in private and state prisons in Arizona. Families and friends can send money orders and cashier's checks directly to the institution holding inmates. They can also make electronic deposits via JPay, Keefe, and GTL

These contracted payment service providers allow money deposits to inmates through:

  • Card deposits with phone calls to specific toll-free numbers (debit and credit cards only)
  • Card deposits online (debit and credit cards only)
  • Cash deposits at retail locations
  • Money transfers via mobile apps

The brochures of each service provider provide information on the various funding options available.

How to Visit an Inmate in Arizona

Anyone who intends to visit an inmate in Arizona correctional facilities must fill out a visitor's application and await approval from the specific jail authority. After approval, visitors must comply with the facility's visitation policies.

The Arizona DOC charges a $25 fee for each application, which is used to run background checks on the applicants. The application process usually takes about 30 days. If an intending visitor's application is denied, they can only re-apply after 180 days.

You can find information about each facility's visitation schedule and regulations using the prison lookup platform. Some county jails in Arizona provide video visitations. Hence, families and friends of inmates can opt for remote or onsite video visits. Note that prisons charge some fees for providing this service.

A visitor can't appear on more than one prisoner's visitor list unless they're directly related to the other inmates. For more information about inmate visitation in Arizona private or state correctional facilities, read the Arizona DOC Inmate visitation policy.

How to Call Inmates in Arizona

Inmates in Arizona correctional facilities have access to phones, but they're restricted from receiving inbound calls. They can only make prepaid and collect calls.

Friends and families who wish to receive phone calls from inmates must complete an inmate visit application and choose phone-only. There are two ways to do this:

  • Online application- You can complete and submit the application electronically.
  • Printed Application- If you don't want to submit the form online, you can print it after completion and mail it to the Visitation Office of the facility holding the inmate.

Paying for Inmate Calls

The Arizona DOC has partnered with CenturyLink to offer calling services to inmates. Family members and friends can create calling accounts for inmates and pay to receive calls from them.

  • Prepaid Collect- ICSolutions, CenturyLink's billing agent, provides this service, which allows individuals to receive calls from inmates to a specific number. You can receive calls via Internet phone services and cell phones without any monthly spending limits.
  • Debit (Inmate-Prepaid) - Inmates can buy debit services via commissary using funds in their ADC account. Once you've deposited money into their trust account, an inmate can call any phone number approved by their prison.

To set up or manage a CenturyLink account, visit their website or call 1-888-506-8407.
